Default tunes on a Contender

Just bought and older 31 and the tunes are shot, Had Sony, but I'm thinking kenwood or Alpine system,,,, single cd and I pod ready, Satillite ready and HD radio ready.... oh yeah need four new speakers to replace the old 6 1/2" ( I think) Thought I'd put a 200 watt amp and 10 " subwoofer in the console sidewall below decks,, ( to kinda entice the mahi to bite) Any Thoughts???

Think the following brands:
Clarion Head Units and amps (not speakers)
JL audio - Amps and speakers
Infinity - Speakers
Fusion - Head unit
Aquatic - Head unit
Kenwood - new head units

get ready to do it right at >$1500

We rigg Contenders all the time. This is a typical install.

2 10 or 12" Subs in the front. Polk Audio . The grills come seperate. Or JL or pioneer.

A set of JL, Pioneer or Polk 6.5 across from the Leaning post where the pie eyes are for the access for the fuel fills are.

Under the gunnel Polk Atriem speakers. We replace the mount with a quarter inch aluminium welded one. Factory ones always break.

We always use Clarion CMD-5 lately 6's for the head unit.

The poly planer is good but the ribbon cable is a pain to wire tie.

We put the subs on its own amp.

Use as many amps needed for the other speakers. Either JL or Polk.

Sometimes we will run the pie eye speakers on the deck directly because they are so close.

OK so, my thinking is a Kenwood head unit ipod, Sirius and HD Fm ready, single Cd... Single 10" subwoofer mounted below decks with it's own 200watt amp, then JL audio 4 channel speakers for the bow and sides at the leaning post, with it's own amp,,,,, will all this hook into my Kenwood and how will I know?

IF it doesn't what then. Sorry guys but I'm a little old to be an audiophile, it's hard enough to catch fish.

Thanks again!

I"ll agree with Glen on this one. One, 6 CH amp with some watts is all you need. Run 4 speakers and the sub unless your trying to go wild. Once you pass one amp your getting into show systems. I have 3000 watts and may use 800watt 95% of the time. You can get all the sound you need out of one 6 ch amp.

If you have an older Contender the Pie eyes where the fuel fill is is not deep enough for a speaker --- keep that in mind! Also, I just ripped out my entire Polyplanar system. The ribbons expansion boxes wired remotes are not only complicated but don't always work and so the system in my opinion is inferior to almost everything out there.

Rockn Reelin,

After looking at the old 6.5" speakers mounted where the access holes were for the fuel lines, you are correct,, they are definitely not deep enough for the 7.7" JL's so I thought about putting two on the T Top, just hard to swallow$ 1200 buck for two of those bullet style speakers,,, will have to come up with a better plan.

Is there room for the pair in the transom perhaps under the jump seat or is that to close to the deck?

Everyone is screaming Clarion for a head unit, I dread putting a starboard filler in the dash to cover the wider narrower access hole already cut. I thought the Kenwood would be a good alternative.
$ 900.00 for the six channel amp and six sets of speakers is pretty sweet, but can I run the subwoofer off the last two channels and have enough power to push them?

HAHAHA I don't have 1100 dollars in my whole system with the twin amps twin subs EQ and the 6 polk audio wakeboard speakers stereo included. If your going to wakeboard speakers like I have > e bay. H20 Watersports on there sells them all the time. I was in no rush as I tore the whole boat apart and went back custom with everything so I just watched what auctions did not have bids on them. There a wakeboard company and after I won the second set of singles I contacted them and told them what I was doing. They ask me about the twins for the same price if I would let them use a picture and no one had done that before on a fishing boat. Its a little much but still plenty of room to walk under them and around them on the Fountain. Don't bother us at all and I"m 5.10 ......Kenwood twin freeair 10's with the 1000 watt down stairs but yes to your question. You can run 4 speakers and one or two subs on the 6 channel amp as long as the amp has some watts. 4 speakers is really all you need. I still have the orginial 4 speakers hooked up hard wired on the stereo if I don't want that much volume. Running 2000 upstairs and 1000 down but again its way more than actually listen to.
Filled up the dash with twin Garmin 10 inch colors so had to move all the other electronics upstairs and decided to mount them on the outside. instead of in. I do use a EQ with the stereo and its mounted on the inside of the upstairs Electronic box so it won't get wet. The EQ fine tunes all the sound and blended it perfect to what I like. To me and its just my view, its the most important part of the stereo. Have 1000 watts twin amp in my roadster and still have the EQ in it mounted in the trunk. I like quality sound as much as I do the power.
The wakeboard speakers are easy to mount with the clamps and they don't come off. Just make sure you know your tube size when ordering. Thats the key.
