Thanks for all the information everyone. It still sounds like a split decision to me. I guess I'm going to have to go take a look at both of them and play around for a while and see which one suits me.

The things that attract me the most are:

Lowrance
The enhanced shade relief maps look much better and easier to follow structure that the birds contour maps.

Humminbird
I like the side scan feature because I fish a lot of docks. I know Lowrance is coming out with side scan in the near future but as far as I can tell it's another $700. I've delt with their CS before and have had great fast service.

My Lowrance thought the boat was going 19 MPH when tied to the dock.
Lowrance wanted me to purchase an external antenna for $200.
Called the store where I purchased unit and they sent a new one. The problem was a bad batch of antennas, but Lowrance would not admit the problem.

Expect the Lowrance to crap out on you when you need it most and then the customer service is a nightmare to deal with.
