Default E120 backlight is out....anyone else?

Was working great on an offshore trip and about 9 hrs. into the trip, backlight went out. Could barely see the screen, but all was working fine. Adjustments to backlight intensity did nothing.

I called Raymarine after charging batts, checking wires, etc. They said most likely a bad circuit board and to send it in. Anyone else have this happen?
UPS'd it to RM in NH yesterday....will give you a report on how long it takes to get back to me. And right in the middle of canyon season..

While I have not heard of this on the E series, I have seen it on the A series. In the case of the A series there is a series of header pins which connect the backlight to the main PCB. I have seen these "shimmy" loose before, and the problem was corrected by reseating the backlight pins.

If my memory serves me correctly the E series is setup almost the same way.

my backlight went out on a garmin twice. The second time the rep told me to reset the unit to factory settings and this lit her back up. just a suggestion but I guess its too late since its gone.

Happened on my E120 the second day I had it. Took two weeks to get it resolved. But, no issues after many trips and hours since then.

We had one of our E-120s go out. Sent it back under warranty, and it was fixed and turned-around in about 10 days. This was in October 2008.

BTW, did you check to see if the palette was set to night, which will dim the screen considerably?

Thanks for the replies....
Yup, first thing I looked at was night/day palette. I was actually looking at the screen when it went dim. Didnt touch anything.....just went dim to the point you could barely read anything on the screen. I have an E80 next to it, and that one was fine.

When I called RM., the tech seemed to know immediately what the problem was. UPS confirmed it was delivered to RM today. After all I've been reading about RM's troubles and people bashing them, I'll keep you posted on turnaround time., and hope to report a pleasant experience with the repair dept.
