Default Can you really tell fish 1 foot of the bottom

I have a lawence x85, and it works pretty well, but I don't think I can tell when the stripers are sitting on the bottom. Often I see no fish, but will catch stripers 1-3 feet from the bottom, say in 100 to 130 feet of water. How about you guys?

Check the Owner's Manual.* See what the*discrimination is.* This is the distance between two objects.* If it's six inches, you'll see objects that are six inches apart or more.* Also fish that are six inches off the bottom.* You should be able to see fish on the bottom, if they're off the bottom more than the discrinination figure.* I use to have the Lowrance X-16 paper graph.* The discrimination was down to one inch!*

I've been using a Lowrance LX 104c now for a year. I'm typically fishing shallower freshwater 20-65ft. The deeper you fish, the smaller the objects get on your screen. You may be able to use the bottom zoom to get a better look at the zone. Typically, I have no problem marking bottom-holding fish. If they are suspended at all (even a few inches) there will typically be some kind of void area between the fish and the bottom. If they are literally laying on the bottom, you should still be able to distinguish an unusual mass above your bottom sound. I will say that there have been many times that I've caught fish in areas directly off the bottom when the fish did not mark.

Good luck!
