Simple Garmin Question

Hello,

When purchasing a 545s, 540s, or any other s chartplotter must you purchase the 21 or 22 device to make it a sounder?

Or are these unit's Combo fish finder/Chartplotter units stand alone? I read from the Garmin pages that the units are "sonar compatible" which leads me to believe you must purchase the 21 or 22 to make them fishfinders.

They're stand alone. The 545 does not include the BUILT IN sounder, the 545s does. No need to purchase a GSD 21 or 22.
