Default Will a Garmin 4208 accept radar input from a non-Garmin unit?

I've had the Furuno Navnet system on my boat since new together with a Northstar plotter. I recently replaced the Northstar with a Garmin 4208 -- both for the ability to use XM weather and also the G2 Vision charting -- a huge improvement over the older style charts.

I know the 4208 and other similar Garmin units are made to be networked easily with Garmin products, like radar, and also accept NMEA data, but can't tell if there is a way to network in the radar data from the Navnet system too.

I'm very happy with the Furuno setup and radar, but think it would be nice to overlay radar on the Garmin display too.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

There are no standards for radar images, each company a different proprietary radar data format.

Garmin radars are connected to the MFD by the GNET cable (cat5) Each manufacturer uses their own proprietary system, (no standard has been established) so you will not be able to connect via NMEA 0183 or NMEA 2000 stick with the Garmin complete system. You could easily list/sell your Furuno radar on THT . Many Garmin refurbished radar units are available as well as new at very reasonable prices. tuckermarine.com
