Default Updating a Garmin Unit

I am trying to update my garmin 4212 with the latest release. I downloaded the update to a blank data card, verified the update was downloaded. When I insert the card into the unit, it beeps, but doesnt prompt the update screen.

Am I doing something wrong?

Did you format the sd card first? Did you use web updater program? Also put card in slot before powering up unit.

On my 4210 putting the card in before powering up didn't work.

Wait until the gps acquires position then insert the card.

start the 4212 first wait ti it is up and going then install card., When you downloaded card from Garmins site did you see the file in your card reader page? If so the tryas above. If not re download If you see file and it won't upload to unit no matter what you do Call Garmin They have a way to force the unit to accept the upload. You have to hold a buutoon down while turning the unit on and it sets in into hard load mode. I forget the sequence but Garmin can walk you through It wasn't that tough When you first turn your unit on the bottom of screen will tell you your current software version

Captain Jeff is right. I just updated my 4212 with 5.2 and it would not work until I properly formatted the SD card first by placing a blank one in the Garmin with the unit off and then turning it on. After that, you go back to your computer at home and then go to the garmin website with that card in your computer and it will see it during the process and think it is a 4212 and create an update file that will autorun and update your unit BUT you put it in after you have powered up and press the accept prompt when you upload the software. I may not have remembered all of that correctly..... Would be nice if this was covered in the manual but the support guys will tell you via phone or email.

By the way, I was doing all this thinking it would prevent my sonar from locking on some low depth reading (such as 1.4 or 1.5 ft) regardless of the actual depth. This is of course is not fixed and I am going back to have the transducer looked at.

I have not even gotten to why weather is not working but it is next on the list.

I love garmin but I am starting to get frustrated.
