Default Weather Channel on Cell phone

Saw this info on another forum:
If you have a Verizon color phone with "Get it now".
You can subscribe to "Weather Channel Radar"
Its $3.99 a month.
I tried the demo. It gives you local weather info and you can even see a radar image and zoom in and out.
It will allow you to see a motion map as well.
It takes a few seconds to load but a very usefull tool for boaters I'd say.

Cost is the difference.

Have not lost reception yet.

Default Good for in-land and in-shore use.

This sounds like a good system for smaller-boat*skippers and those who dont go too far out to sea. Remember to toprotect your phone from the environment though.

Many thanks to the original poster. I can't believe this isn't being advertised in the Fisherman and everywhere else. This is a godsend, the ablity to see 350/150/75 mile radar from your boat while fishing in the middle of the chesepeake bay. How many times I have been caught in a little summer storm and went home only to find is was a 1 square mile thundercell. Awesome

Someone above posted a response about using a boat radar to see weather. I did not think marine radars had the elevation capability or doppler processing to see moving weather. Has anyone ever seen a thnuder squall on a marine radar?

Any details would be appreciated.

Thanks

Just this weekend, I was up at Sandy Point and decided to head back because of the winds.
I checked the Radar on the Cell and there was nothing noticable. There were 2 small cells that popped up near the South and West River. As I saw them pop up on the distance, I was able to look at the radar on the Cell (had to stop to do this so I could pay attention). I was able to see the extent of the cell and tell that it was not that big and that no more was comming. So I continued on and just got a small drizzle. Thanks goes out to the individual on some-other-website.com that posted the original information to me.

OR, get a Seimens SX56 PDA/phone(or similar PocketPC phone), and go to any website you want. I have a bookmark to the looped radar GIF's. For example:

You very definetly can see the storm cells and squall lines on marine radar, although it does not have doppler capability. And yes, you can determine which directioin it's moving at what speed it is moving.

Does Suncom have such a service? They have I-net but it doesn't show a radar picture. If they had a service like Verizon for $3.99 a month I would gladly pay for it.
