Random Quote: The solution to most problems is to first go fishing
I have read about the "common" issues with the transducers here BUT...
Has anyone heard of this? Recently on a trip from Barnegat Inlet into Little Egg inlet the depth readings died just as we were entering the shoals at LEI. Water there is 2 foot or less for as much as 1/2 mile of sandbar. After numerous emails and conversations with Garmin, we replaced the fairing block and transducer on the 4212. Three weeks later I am developing the same issues with it either cutting out or telling me there is 163. 1 feet of water at our dock of 4 feet. The other 2 yr old transducer had also lost temp readings. This one has temp but the same inaccurate depth. This area of the Jersey shore is loaded with shallow water shoals and navigating becomes a nail biter at best. I have all updates from 2.3 to 5.3 I will try a few things I see listed here especially about replacing wiring locations. She runs off of house batteries and reads 13.1 volts when the engines are off. Between the haul out and new transducer, I would have rather done something else with the money but here it starts over again....agh !
No transducer will work in 2' of water. If your in 2' of water, the transducer is basically draggin along the bottom because it is 1 or 2' below the water line, if not more.
But nice try on the spam. Which company do you work for?
Why is it anybody expressing a negative view with a Garmin product is a spammer.
I have owned Garmin for 5 years and the bottom line is their sounders suck big time.
all the gsd blackbox sounders are as bad as it gets for marking fish.
The 5.3 downgrade has made my GSD22 and M260 almost useless
I'm ready to throw my entire 4212 system in the garbage can. I'm experiencing the same problems as above. Garmin replaced the sonar & gs22 and now my GPS is out, the sonar reads until I hit 15 miles per hour, and my instrument panel & fuel gauges aren't working either. I spent over 5k thousand on this system and I could have bought a hummingbird deptfinder and a handheld GPS and at least it would work.
I have issues of my own---another thread. The techs are prompt but if you call 3 techs on the same problem you get 3 different answers. I now ( after the 5.3 update ) have to send to Kansas my radar ( gmr 24 ) for error code 6 and 4208 unit which is frozen screen says "holding". Maybe these guys werent quite ready for primetime. I might get through the season and go Navnet VX2 and replace 4208, radar and Sounder---get rid of the gremlins from Kansas over the winter!!
Believe me Garmin knows about the problem. I have personally sent them (several weeks ago) the two pertinent links on this site so they can read for themselves the problems people are having.
Regardless of series 3,4, or 5xxx, the new update (with regard to the gsd22) merely ups the default gain in "auto mode" which screws up the accuracy of the presentation. There is actually a menu that allows you to select low/med/high for "auto mode" gain, however that menu is not currently enabled when in "normal mode" of operation.
Boy, I am happy and sad to have found this thread. I have a 4210, 3210, GSD22, B260 and am having the same problem. All of sudden, without warning, it shows 1.5 feet. I have noticed that mine works consistently (minor blips of inaccuracy) until I reach 31 feet of depth and then usually it blanks out until I return to shallower water. I have checked connection, measured voltage, put corrision X on everything trying to narrow it down.
So........
How long do we wait before SH*T canning the Garmin and moving on to something else. I mean for $7k, I would hope to get MUCH better response than you guys have been getting.
