Random Quote: so what you are saying is, its exactly the same but completly different......
I like Garmin for navigation and Furuno for the bottom...Is the Garmin up to speed yet for good bottom presentation??? I would probably use the M260 thru-hull ducer for either setup...It would be on a 26' Twin Vee CC with the ducer in the rear with the bilge pumps...Anyone have either of these setups (on a TV boat by chance)...Mostly fishing in 300' or less...Is this overkill (I will loose some power with the thru hull) or not...if so, what unit and ducer for 300' and less...I'll put the popcorn on, let have it!!! Thanks for the inputs...........John

I just purchased a boat and put the 4212 on it since I have had a Garmin
GPS/FF for years. The salesman said with the new black box FF the garmin would be just fine. I have only used it a few times and have not had time to play with it a little, but as a FF I have not been overly impressed in 200 ft and less. I think if you can do both you woulld have the best GPS and best FF.

Nuts
100% agree! I have the Garmin 4212. I had it with the GSD22, but i sold the GSD22 and bought the Furuno 620 after using the Garmin FF a few times.

Nuts:
I kinda thought that was the case but didn't really know anyone that was overly impressed with the Garmin FF....that's to bad because the navigation is awesome...I think I'll go with two units: Garmin for Nav and Furuno for FF...thanks for the inputs

I have Garmin3210 with gsd22sounder and I am right in the middle of mental battle with what you are saying , I love the navigation of garmin but sounder suckssss.
I am going to keep Garmin and get a a Furno shoot thru only because I have a Cat Hull prokat and faring block won;t work.
Lotta signal lost shootin thru glass. Why not an Airmar "Tilted Element" ? Mounts flush, no fairing block, no signal loss.
Fish:
I considered the "Tilted Element" but didn't know exactly where it would fit being a cat hull...actually TV recommends the shoot thru ducer...I went with a 1K unit because of the lost signal that would occur...I think it would be fine with a 10-20% signal loss in only 300' of water, am I wrong??? Thanks, John

Smart move to "overpower" to offset mounting ducer inside. Don't know much about cats. Some have a flat bottom on each "pontoon" ? If your set-up ever needs upgrading, yer might be able to use the "0 Degree Tilted Element" to shoot straight down.
Cold Beers,
Excellent choices..
What Transducer(s).
just wonder if you or any one has used the 295 with the 20 degree 200khz TD.
I am going to use the R299 in hull 3kw transducer. I talked to Furuno about the tilted element and they did not recommend them. I should be able to report on how it works next week.
FCV 295 is 3kw unit. Airmar tilted elements are either 600w or 1000w.
I should also add that I was looking at the FCV585. That is what I was going to use the titled element for. And Fururno said they did not recommend it.
Airmar makes most of the transducers. ie R99 is an Airmar nomenclature.
you can buck it against the compatibility list for various FF companies.
You can read about their latest products in their web site..
I think you will find the new digital FCV 295 as a superior product and is compatible with
1,2 or 3 KW transducers. It also allows you to use other than 50/200 transducers.
You can set the lower freq and the higher freq independently...... If you use other than 50/200,then Furuno makes them or has someone make them... In the case of the Airmar R299 it is broadband with adjustable freq .
I got out this weekend and tried the FCV295 with the R299 transducer. I did not get any deeper than 200 feet. But it paints a very nice picture. It reads clear bottom even at 50 mph. I hope to get out to some deep water soon and try it out. So far I am very pleased.
