Default Garmin G2 Vision and Mapsource

Anyone know if you use mapsource to backup your SD card?

Has anyone looked at what files are on the SD card?

Mine has the GMAPSUPP.IMG file ( actual map file I believe 1.6GB )
but also has a "SCRN" directory that looks like it has screen images in it
and also I have a "GarminDevice" xml file. Curious if the other stuff is necesary or if I can delete it.

No. The paperwork that came with my 5208 states that you cannot copy the G2 Vision card to your computer. Is suspect it's accurate.

Now, why would you want to delete anything from your factory programmed card? That would almost guarantee that it would no longer work.

You can copy routes, waypoints, etc. to your computer and/or import them into mapsource. This has nothing to do with the G2 Vision card.

The SCRN directory was created when you took screen shots via the new screenshot feature. Normally you would copy those off to your PC for use.... The GarminDevice.xml file holds your device ID, and model info the first time the chip is used in a device. Normally it is used by Mapsource, if yo save your wapypoints from the plotter to a memory card, then put the memory card in you PC and run Mapsource, it comes up and says the device name and ID of your plotter, that file is where mapsource got the device name and ID from. I've deleted it from my Vision card, it just gets created again next time used.
