Default Max depth for FF

I am wondering what depth I can expect to reach with the Garmin 240 Blue. I need a small simple unit that is functional offshore and I was thinking this might do the trick. Any other suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

1500 ft max according to their website:

Not a chance in hell on that 1500 feet, not on mirror smooth fresh water, let alone in the real world.

Ya gotta read the fine print from the Garmin site:

Depth: 1500 foot max depth*

Specifications are subject to change without notice.

* Depth capacity is dependent on water salinity, bottom type, and other water conditions.

In other words, "1500 feet sounds like a good number to put here, but we won't back it up if it doesn't work that deep."

Thanks folks, I was really hoping to get some real-world feedback from someone who has used this unit. I don't think much of the "rated depth", it is never accurate.

With 3 to 5 foot seas, you may get 700 ft, maybe.
