I mounted a GMR-18 on my Parker CC. No problems w/ interference or need to shield. I have 2 GPS units - one mounted on a pole above the radar plane and one on the t-top rail below the plane. Also have XM receiver below the plane. Everything works great - no interference. The dome is attached to a radar mount.
It is not interference that should be of concern. It is the bombardment of other antennas with high amounts of radiation ultimately causing them to fail
Thanks for all the great replies and good info. The 4 degree seaview wedge come in the mail today, and I am going to go buy some 2' extended poles for the GPS and XM antennas at west marine. It looks like I will use the wedge and mount the dome flush with the t-top (due to the lack of space for a strut type mount) and use the 2' poles to place the GPS and XM antennas above the plane of the dome. This way I can raise and lower the GPS and XM antennas while trailering and storing the boat, while keeping them up and out of the way of the radar when it is being used (and avoid frying the GPS and XM antennas). I hope this works! Any other thoughts or suggestions are welcome.
Two foot poles might look funny? Go with a 10" pole.......It just needs to be a few inches above the dome when it is that close............
How long do you think it will be before you forget to put them down and back your boat under the house and rip them off????
People keep saying that you don't need a wedge because you will be going slow when you need your radar......I completely disagree......My boat runs fairly level at 5 knts and 25 knts and it runs at an upward angle inbetween.......In real bad fog I am generally running 10-15 knts and that is when most boats are really "digging" and when you could appreciate a wedge the most!
offshorebri---I think your are right smaller poles would look better. I hope that I can remember to lower them, if not a lot of bad language will be spilled!!!
