Default M260 or b164?

garmin 4212/gsd22
fishing depth typical 70' to 2200'
did some measuring and i have room for either.
m260 no temp will need additional sensor
b164 not as many elements in transducer lower resolution ?
what do you think?

I have the M 260 connected to a Raymarine C 120. It operates very well for me in deep water as well as shallow. Seek advice from Airmar who makes the transducers!! Good Luck.

Is there a reason you wouldn't go with the B260 (does garmin support it?)? Through hull is better than in-hull, but in-hull isn't bad. I had the M260 with a dsm250 on my parker, and it worked great in deep water. The Parker wasn't really the kind off boat you want a through hull on.

If I had my druthers, I'd go with the B260 on my new boat, but that will have to wait for it to be out of the water.

Interesting comment. I've got a B164 on one of my boats thats a Parker and I'm interested why you would say that. Personally, I haven't had any problems and am very happy with it .

all good ducers - the limiting factor in deep dropping is the GSD22 - do a search....

B260 works with GSD22 but maybe they don't want the idea of a bulky block on the bottom? If I were to go thru hull I would do the B164 (for my fishing style). I run an M260 paired with the GSD22 and couldn't be happier. I get the goofy depth ranges while navigating drastic shallow water depth changes (<10') but I'm OK with that. Both transducers probably perform about the same.

I asked Airmar the very same question and the person I spoke with told me the M260 is hands down the better transducer. Yes there is some loss through the hull but it has more elements in it's design and Airmar stated that was why it was the better transducer. They are coming out with a TM260 which is the transom mount version of the M260 I believe that is an option.

Just real estate under the boat. First, if anyone wanted to trailer the boat, placement would be critical. Heck, even when the boat is on stands placement is critical. You also don't want that brick of a ducer in front of a prop, and that isn't easy with twin engines. Lastly, I would be concerned with losing bottom due to unclean water.

The in-hull install avoided every one of those issues. It was just a cleaner, no hassle way to do it on that boat.

Could it be done? Absolutely. But you would probably want one of the smaller ducers, that B260 is an absolute beast.
