Default Garmin 3206 to Furuno 585

Ok guys need some help cause wires,in's,out's,
to,from, NEMA, just not my thing. I want to do the
nema connections from a garmin 3206, and receiver? to a Furuno 585
I bought a west marine pass though box 2 years ago
rigged it up the way i thought the wires should go,
but it never worked, wiring is off. Tried some searching here
and still don"t get it.
Can someone please tell me in simple mans ways to
get this up and running the way it should. I know this
must be easy for people, but i am having a hell of a time.

Thanks

See the diagram below. Connect a pair of TX and RX from either Port 1 or Port 2 of the Garmin to a pair of the RX and TX from either Port A or Port B of the Furuno. Remember, the TX from one machine goes to the RX of the other and vice versa. Be sure the Blacks (Neg 12 V) are connected together and to the SAME 12 volt negative source. Same with the red power.
On BOTH machines you have to go to the communications tab and turn the ports ON. You may also have to go in to the software and tell which sentences tou want to transmit.

Did anybody ever use the passthrough box from west marine. Maybe thats my problem. When you say port-1 / port-2 / port-A / port-b should I be connecting the port-1 wires together from the 3206 then connect the port-A wires together from the 585 then keep them in line in the passthrough box? Or put the brown from 3206 to the white on the 585 and put them in line in the passthrough box and so on. Thanks

First off thanks for the replies. I got the 3206 to display the 585 temp reading. But i cant get the 3206 to talk to the 585. 3206 is shy or the 585 dont want to here anymore about this from the 3206.

Sounds like you have to enable the right nmea sentence in the setup of the 3206.

Correct, go to the communications tab and enable the output. Be sure to set for 4800 Baud.
