Default Having problems with speaker placement

I have a Scout Winyah Bay boat and want to put 2 sets of JL 7'7's. i had an installer come by today and say yea it would work then I called a guy I know at my dealer and told him what I was planning to do. He informed me I need to check to see if I have tubes inside my gunnell. If not then I probably will not be able to mount the spaekers there because at the base of the gunnells it is all foam and so is the floor. Well I checked and I do not have the tubes inside the gunnells. There has got to be a way to get the wire from the gunnells to the center console wouldn't you think?
The other options are to install a set in the bow firing towards the console and maybe a pair on the back of the console where your knees are. Both sets firing back and both sets either shin level or knee level. The last boat I heard like this was very hard to hear and I was not impressed> i guess because they were so low.

Not familiar with the boat... but I can say that I've never not be able to get a wire from A to B... It may not be the factory run for the wire, but there should be a way.

I talked with Scout boats today and they said I could mount 2 sets of JL 7.7's in the gunalle but it would very difficult to run the wires. The suggested I run 2 JL 7.7's in the front facing back right under the casting deck and 2 JL 6.5'd at the top of the center console. Not sure how that would sound though. I guess if I added a JL 10" sub it would make the 6.5's sound better.?

A Sub does help. IMO, it makes a world of differnce, even with the 7.7s (I have two pair). If you can keep the speakers down in the boat, the sound "Bounces" aorund inside and sounds better while in the boat. Up high and it tends to go out, which is good if your outside the boat (wade fishing, anchored at the beach, etc).

Default Scout 221 Winyah

BBQ Boy, you own a Winyah, what are your thoughts, pros/cons. I am deciding between it and a Pathfinder 22xl tournament. Is the 150 enough or should I go for the 250?

I absolutely love my Winyah. I was looking at the Pathfinder as well. I went with the Winyah for a couple of reasons. I got a much better price and loyalty to the dealer I know and also that Scout makes boats about 20 minutes up the road. With that being said, if those were not a factor I probably would still buy the Scout. i had a colleague take me fishing last fall on a charter boat that was that had a Pathfinder you mentioned. It is a very nice boat. I studied that boat and could not figure out why people boast about it. It has the same layout as my old entry level Sea Pro. I thought my boat handled better and rode better. The Pathfinder has great attributes in this area as well. I think Scout's fit and finish is amazing.
I went with the 150 because of weight. It is plenty fast enough at 48 mph. Now the 250 hauls serious butt at around 70mph. If having all that speed is important then go for it but also consider fuel economy as well.
Anymore questions, let me know.

The advantage of the Pathfinder is it does draft a little less, and down here in FL there are some shallow areas you have to go through to get to some fish. Also they have a baitwell right in the front which is convenient. One ding on the Scout is the access to their rod lockers. The way they are hinged you have to be in the boat to put rods in or take them out. You simply can't walk up to the trailered boat & open it and put rods in. The Pathfinder's are hinged in the front, not the side, so you can. All that said the Winyah is a beautiful boat. I am going to sea trial both first. Thanks for the feedback.

Well Ken. You have made a few good points. In the area I fish there are many shallow areas that you have to go through as well. I do wish my boat drafted less but It has not hindered me catching fish in shallow water.
the guide i fished with said he has never used the bait tank in the front. Doesn't like it but that doesn't mean the next person won't.

Pathfinders web site says it drafts 11"
Scouts web site says 10"

I am sure they are saying that to say mine is better but I don't think my boat drafts 10". Maybe 12"

I would think having a baitwell up front would be good when fishing alone since I would be up their working the trolling motor. Both boats are great. WHen I left the Pathfinder dealer yesterday I had made up my mind and was so excited. Then I figured I owed it to myself to drive a little further and check out the Scout. Man, is that a pretty boat. Now I'm confused. I'll keep an open mind until after the sea trials.

I have only two speakers in my bay boat so far. I plan to add a 2 channel amp but with just the two speakers it sounds pretty good. They are mounted low (below gunnel height) on the center console facing the gunnels. Bletort makes a lot of sense with the sound bouncing around as i was surprised that just two speakers without an amp would sound that good.
