I am having trouble with my XM Weather on my Garmin 4212.....I cannot get any data to show on my unit?? I have full signal, reciever is blinking green light which shows it is recieving data, and my Garmin is showing my XM fisherman package......however no weather data shows up on my unit after being on for over 20 mins??? I just hooked up the service yesterday....any info on how to get it going?

On a new account you may need to have the signal refreshed. I'd try that first by either calling XM or refreshing it yourself if you were given the instructions by one of their reps on how to do it. Good Luck
you might wait a bit longer...that's about normal - takes 20 min to get the full info....zoom out and see if you see rain any where in the US....make sure your setting is Nexrad "on"
You have all the weather functionality turned on then call XM Weather folks and have them refresh your unit (as mentioned above). Do not turn your machine off for at least 45 minutes it can take as long as 30 - 45 minutes on initial setup for all the funcitonalities to update and turn own. Once you've done the initial setup your good to go.
Ok guys I gave the refresh a try and after 45 mins still nothing. So I gave Garmin a call and after going through some questions the Garmin tech ask me to pull up the precip page, I do and tell him no precip is showing at all he then pulls his up and says no precip on his page as well.......we then begin to think it is an XM problem. So I then hang up and call XM back. The XM tech tells me that their signal seems fine, she then disconnects my subscription which my unit did show that it had been shut off and she then reconnected it which my unit also showed.....however.....still no data is showing on my unit......whats the deal???????

I had the same problem you are having, I showed the XM weather was there but it did not update and show me any weather data.
This is what I found.
1. Go and download the latest update software for the 4212 and install it. Even if you have done this already do it again if you did not have your XM box hooked up the first time.
2. The Black XM box more then likely has an older software version in it and until it is hooked up to your 4212 and the current update is completed it will not give you the weather read outs.
3. After you have completed the software update you should be receiving the current weather, remember that it does take a few minutes for all the different weather data information to update and show up on your 4212.
In order to see rain you may have to zoom out to see the whole state or more then your state, but you should see rain somewhere if it is in fact raining some where.
Some weather data will update in a couple of minutes and some may take around five or six minutes.
Here is what I did from my old thread on the same problem you are having. I hope this helps.
OK, problem fixed, The GDL 30 unit had software version 2.70 on it, Garmin has a release version 2.90, this new version is part of the 4.10 update, but I updated my 4212 before I had the GDL 30 so of course there was nothing there for the V4.10 to update.
The Garmin GDL 30 update page will not upload to an SD card, it looks for the old style Garmin cards so you do need to complete the up date from the V4.10 update.
I reloaded the V4.10 and the GDL 30 updated to the newest 2.90 software and now I have weather.
According to Garmin the Version 2.90 update allows the GDL 30 to communicate with the 4000/5000 series chart plotters.
Now I may have to update to the master mariner package but I will try out the Fisherman's package for a while.
To anyone who buys one of these GDL 30 units you do not have to use any of the old style NEMA connections, just ignore the five or six extra NEMA wires, this unit is very easy to install and hook up.
You will need to make sure you update the GDL 30 to the current software version of 2.90 in order to communicate with a 4000/5000 series chart plotter.
West Marine has a great price right now clearing out the GDL 30 units, you do have to locate one in a store as this is not a online deal.
Thanks for the help and suggestions, they were all a big help.
My Garmin has version 2.5 and my GDL is version 2.7......do you think this could be the reason I am not reading weather? If so how do I go about updating them?

If not you can call Garmin and they will mail an SD memory card with th latest updates for a $50 deposit that will be refunded twhen you return the SD Memory card to Garmin. Your 10 software interations behind. You need to update your software ASAP.
By the way, that's what's causing your XM Weather issues.
My Garmin has version 2.5 and my GDL is version 2.7......do you think this could be the reason I am not reading weather? If so how do I go about updating them?
Yes that is your problem, the GDL XM Weather Box software has to be version 2.90 in order for the XM box to communicate with the 4000/5000 series plotters.
All you have to do is go to the Garmin page and down load the current update for your 4212 plotter which is I think Version 4.70 and install it to your Garmin 4212, it will see what is already there and will automatically update the GDL XM weather box from version 2.70 to version 2.90.
Your weather will start working, in fact your weather is working in the black box now, it just will not communicate to your plotter until you do the update.
Remember that each update for your 4212 includes updates for all your other Garmin components as well.
One more thing, from what you are posting your 4212 is way behind on updates, this might take a while and it may look like your 4212 has locked up, do not touch anything, let it go, it will load but you may need to give it plenty of time.
It looks like your 4212 may be updating from version 2.50 to version 4.70, that will enable a lot of new features you do not currently have.
Good Luck I hope this does the trick for you. It worked for me after I worked on it for a couple of weeks.
Will updating to Ver 4.70 on my plotter also update my GDL30 at the same time? Is this all one big update?
Yes it will update everything, if you have a garmin radar unit it will up date the radar as will at the same time, even your transducer and such, anything that uses software in this system it will look for and install the correct updates at one time.
thanks for all of the help man....I am just really new to the whole updating thing but one more "stupid" question for you.....I have an SD card that came with my Garmin is that one blank or does that have an update on it? If I can't use that one for this update where do I need to get one and what size does it need to be?

I do not know the size of your garmin card, but you can try to load the update on it, if it has enough room it will upload, if not it will tell you and not load the update.
As for the way points, it will not erase your way points, at least mine never has.
You should be good to go, this up date is only about 50 megabytes.
I have a 2 gigabyte SanDisk SD card just their plan blue card, Staples Office Supply stores have them pretty cheap or you should find them at any best buy, office depot or office max.
