Question GHP10 Autopilot Install

Anyone have any idea how much time and cost I should expect for the proper installation and interface of the Garmin GHP10 Autopilot? It's to be interfaced with the Garmin 4212 and GMR18 Radar.

Thanks,

Are you doing it yourself or paying someone?

It's not difficult, but if you haven't done it before there is a steep learning curve, and the longest lead time is finding all the hydraulic parts.

Default Someone Else

No, I'm looking for an installer to do it for me. That's why I'm wanting an idea of how much time it should take an experienced professional and roughly how much I should expect it to cost me.

Thanks for the time estimate Birdman. Now, what does an electronics installer typically charge? Is it flat rate or by the hour?

Thanks again.

It really depends on where you live and who you hire. For example, I got an estimate for a windlass install and it was $800 plus material to replace an existing windlass, all the switches and relocate the Relay to a dry place. I did it myself in about 8 hours, and I would suspect a 'pro' who's installed many of these would do it in 5 or 6, so in this case it's over $130 an hour.

you don't "get better" too much with a AP install...they just take a lot of time as they are electrical, hydraulic and electronic installs...and if done half a$$ed, you end up stranded and with a possible short circuit which can lead to bad things...

Aww C'mon, nothing a little duct tape and a small fire extinguisher couldn't handle.

$200k for a boat,
$ 20k for electronics
10 hours to install
Hitting a ferry because you didn't take the 30 minutes to fully bleed your steering lines.....

Give Matt Smith a call 757-851-0050. I had him wire me up a Furuno Radar and Fish Finder on my Sportcraft. Outstanding customer service!
