Default MMSI Number

So I had my MMSI number programmed into one of my radios. Now I decided I wanted it in my ICOM instead of my Raymarine because the ICOM does NMEA in and out while the Raymarine only does NMEA in. So now when someone sends me a position request both radios "chirp" because they both have the same MMSI number in them. Sooooo from what I can figure, the only way to make the Raymarine stop acknowledging the position request would be to reprogram it with all zeros but that would render the radio unable to be programmed a third time if I would ever need it again without sending it back to Raymarine to be cleared out.....Am I missing something?

Program a second legit mmsi # into the radio instead of all zero's then people can contact you on either one and both will work for the dsc? Do you really have both radios turn on at the same time anyway? Or keep the Ray turned off. I thought most people that have two radios just use one as a back up in case of emergency??

Which RM radio do you have? If it's a RAY220, here's the sequence to clear the MMSI and reset the radio:

To erase the existing MMSI number, start with the radio turned off and press and hold down the "FUNC", "16/9", and "D/L DSC" buttons all at the same time. While keeping them held down, turn the RAY220 on. When you see "Cl" on the LCD screen, you can let go of all of the keys and then turn the radio off. The MMSI number has now been cleared which will allow you to enter a new 9 digit MMSI using the procedure outlined in the User Manual.

Can't you set the Ray to NOT auto-answer? If you have more than one radio you should use the same MMSI, but I suppose its not a big deal to get another. I don't think I'd want any radio on board to have *no* MMSI number. What if something really bad happened and that was the radio you needed to send the distress call on?
