Default It's time for a stereo for the Boat!

I have done some searching through the archives and I'm still not sure what to get!

Anyways, I am wanting to get a stereo/CD for the boat and mount 4 speakers. What do you all recommend for a head unit and speakers? I don't want to spend more than about $350 for everything and I will be mounting it on the center console. I'd kind of like to mount a wired remote on/near the transom so I can control it while out on the lake having fun and such.

Clarion? Kenwood? Pioneer? JBL? which one.. HELP!

Also, please help with model numbers and $$$ if you can - especially for the speakers..

Thanks,
Chris

Get a MARINE version because of humidity

Look at the controls on the radio . . . could you use them while doing 30 mph in 2 to3 foot chop ?

How loud is your boat under power . . . could you hear your radio while underway?

Sound quality is for when you are tied up at the dock or drift fishing

Rather than install a stereo, I purchased a Sony Sports Boom box. It fits in my hard top along side of my radar while running or I can put it on the transom of the boat while swimming or even take it on the beach. Plus, I did not have to go throught the whole installation process or worry about relacing the speakers every few years because the sun and weather got to them. The stereo is described as "Rugged, splash-resistant case of high-impact plastic, with rubber gaskets, bushings and waterproof seals to keep out dirt and moisture." Perfect for boating!

Here is what I purchased:

Here's my plan:

*4 Pioneer TS-165's
*Sony CDX-MP40 CD/MP3 and controls XM radio housed in a poly planar stereo enclosure
*Sony RM-XM10W remote control

I plan on mounting the stereo under the console and the remote control will be on top where I can control just about everything. I plan on burning my music on MP3's so I don't plan on needing to change CD's often and with XM radio I should be covered.

Depending on where and how you mount a stereo you don't need a marine stereo. Get the poly planar stereo enclsoure and you should be fine.
