Default Sonar locking up ...

New WC250DC, Garmin 4210, GMR1800 radar, GRS422, P79 transducer.

Sonar locks up and says 1.3 ft on occasion. Happens at any speed, including sitting. Dealer has been out once and wiggled wires.

I can't reach the P79 to check fluid fill (not flexible enough) but based upon others things found wrong, this is a possibility.

Dealer will come back of course, but hoped for some heads up in case something simple. I have upgraded the software via the Garmin site and cannot find any relevant error messages.

Thanks for any help ...

We have the same problem on occasions with our M260 paired with the 4212. I just sent Airmar a question asking what the issues could be. I'll post the results (within 2 business days).

There is another thread about this on THT - Garmin claims they will fix it in the next release of the software update.

Yes ... thanks ...

I was wondering if an M260 would have been a better choice ... guess not.

I searched for P79 here before posting ... I will look again.

Thanks again.

Just installed a 5212, gsd22, b60-20 and am having the same problem. Show's 1.3ft running on plane then sticks there for a bit at idle, what gives.

That is exactly what mine does ... very handy when you are running in about 3 feet of water (very slowly).

I hope the software upgrade fixes this, or my wife will have to wade ahead with a stick ... not good ...

Unhappy Garmin 5212+GSD 22

Similar problem here. After updating the software using the download from the Garmin website on my 5212 I keep having the same problems:

1. GSD 22 sonar function touch screen icon doesn't come up on the initial boot-up.
2. Have a steady green light on the back of the GSD 22 box and no sonar info on the MFD.
3. Sometimes the sonar function appears on the MFD mysteriously.
4. Somnetimes the sonar function is up and running normally and disappears mysteriously.
5. Sometimes with the sonar function working properly, it freezes on some number which may be 1.3ft or 9.5ft or whatever.
6. Sometimes I get the proper progression from red to steady green to flashing green on the back of the sounder module and everything works by disconecting and re conecting the power and info cables on the back of the sounder module.
7. Sometimes the sounder stops working at depths of over 1000ft.

I'm trying to avoid sending the GSD 22 box back to Garmin but may have to do that.

Anybody out there have the same problems??

Default ditto

I have also had this problem...I can usually just switch to the sonar page and zoom out the depth manually and it will start working. Garmin is definitely behind in the sonar dept.

If I put the sonar in manual mode, say 20', it seems to work better. I can live with this for the time being, but I hope Garmin is paying attn.

If you check their stock value, they appear to be behind in lots of areas.
