Which hand-held VHF?

Looking to buy a hand-held VHF for my bay boat. Never had a hand-held and didn't know there were so many choices until I started looking.

Aside from all the standard brands, i.e. Standard Horizon, Icom, Uniden, etc., there are some, what I consider marine "off-brands", such as Cobra and Midland, that are a whole lot cheaper.

Yes, I know you get what you pay for, but is this as true for a simple hand-held?

My only suggestion is to get a waterproof hand held. If this is a backup to your fixed mount, you never know the conditions under which it will be needed. There are several on the market. I have an ICOM, it works great, no complaints. Way more features than I will ever use.

Look at craigslist or ebay for a Garmin 76 series. I picked up one from craigslist for around $100.
