Default Temp sensor

I'm in the process of installing a in hull transducer in my Carolina Classic. If I remove the transom mount ducer I will loose the temp, even thoug it's not that accurate.

What did you that have done this use for temp?

Default RE: Temp sensor

I mounted the transducer for my new Lowrance HDS unit in the bilge. Lost the temp so I purchased the Lowrance TS-1BL Temp Sensor and mounted it to the outer hull to pick up the temp with. The temp sensor cable plugs into the rear of the display. The temp sensor cable also has an extra plug to connect your transducer to it since you must use the transducer port to plug in the temp sensor, thus the ability to connect both the temp cable and the transducer cable into the single port on the display. The temp sensor and cable was ~$47.00.

You can also purchase a seperate Lowrance temp gauge with sensor for ~$100.00. This setup is independent of your Display.

If its an Airmar transducer you can buy a seperate temperature probe that mounts on the transom. Then a special Y adapter is used to connect the in hull transducer and temp probe to the display unit. If no Y adapter is made for your particular display (my Northstar for example) then you can still do it with a connector and a bit of soldering. Airmar can point you in the right direction. Give them a call.

Default temp failure/ducer

DDrew - My Northstar 6100i with Airmar B260 lost temperature - you have a Northstar - how did you get around this without replacing the B260?

thepod, I'm adding an Airmar ST69 speed and temp pickup to the transom. I believe they also make a temp only pickup. No "Y" adapter exists for my M84. Airmar sent me to Gemeco (http://www.gemeco.com/) for help. Gemeco sent me the connector for the M84 along with the ST69 pickup and directions for putting it all together. This does require soldering to the new connector pins but looks to be fairly straight forward. I just pulled the cover off the boat and should get around to actually installing this in the next couple of weeks.

I believe airmar also does a thru-hull speed & temp sensor. Lowrance does a TH temp sensor as well. Nice, but it's another hole in your boat.

Ddrew, you don't need to solder. Airmar sells a water-tight junction box kit for splicing cables. It has enough terminal blocks for temp as well as all the transducer functions. Much better than solder or crimp connectors.

Good to know gerg, thanks! I'll keep that in mind when I get into mine. That would make any future changes much easier than the solder connections.
