Default DSM250 / C80 and new transducer???

I've been helping a friend set up a new tranducer on for a Raymarine C80. It has a DSM250 and had a P66 connected to it which was (and still is working OK). With a M258 connected the orange light is flashing once. This made me think that the ducer or cable is broken. When I went into the fishifinder setup, however there were only 6 transucers listed including the P66 but not the M258 or anything newer. The C80 is running version 4.25 of the software.

Does it sound like software or a cable fault? Would it be worth changing to a DSM300?
Thanks
DA

I have a C-80 with a DSM 250 and a P66. It works great, I see bottom at all speeds. I only fish up to about 100' or so. Placement is very important.

Thanks Wellv20 - His P66 has been working fine but only get's to abou 250m which is great for a 600w ducer. He thought he would pick up a little more depth and more clarity at all depths using the 1kw ducer even though the DSM is only 600w. Any others out there?

I have the same system c-80 and dsm 250 and p66 transducer, except my transducer does not not good at all, I bought a b-60-20, 600 watt thru hull tilted element to install. I hope your install works , I'll watch this post for up dates. I will do mine next month. I was told with the dsm-250 spending the money for the 1000 watt may be a waste , enough though they say it's compatible.

you should be running 4.29 on the c-80. however, the m258 is not listed as compatible with the dsm 250. i would call raymarine to specifically determine which components work together.
