Default Furuno GP330B is here! NMEA 2000 & 0183

Furuno's new GPS sensor > GP330B is now available (msrp $400)
some new features:
- 12 + 2 sat. tracking (latter 2 for WAAS), so it should yield even better accuracy
- can be flush mounted (finaly like RM and Lowrance, this is what i've been waiting for )
- with optional wiring, Furuno confirms that it will do both NMEA 2000 and 0183 (so should be compatible for Vx1, Vx2 and NN3D!)

Yep, it works on all their equipment. Works on other brands too. When ordering a Navnet 3D setup this is what you should buy. The prior BBW-GPS's are out of inventory for a while anyway, so the GP330 is the only game in town for a Furuno brand GPS antenna for a new installation.

Jim

If you already have a BBW-GPS on a Navnet3D what would be the advantage of changing it out for the GP330B?

The only advantage involves NMEA2000. The new antenna will put gps data on the nmea2000 network. The old one will not. If you have a non-furuno N2K fuel flow metering system for example, the fuel flow system can have access to the gps data with the new antenna, but not with the old.

I do not believe that this antenna is NMEA 0183 capable yet. I spoke to a local dealer who said it was a planned software change in the future, but presently it is N2K only.
This is what it said on their site:

"The GP-330B is a high performance GPS Receiver designed for any type of vessel. This compact and cost-effective receiver offers extremely accurate position fixes, within 3 meters with the WAAS mode activated.
The GP330B is capable of data output in NMEA2000 format, making it an ideal GPS sensor for use with NavNet 3D systems. The sensor comes with all of the hardware required for deck- or mast-mounting solutions. A 6-meter cable with NMEA2000 connector is supplied as standard."

No mention yet of 0183.

It only ships with a N2K Cable, but it is capable of NME0183. You need to buy an optional NMEA0183 cable.

is THIS why I can't get gps speed or time on my Merc Monitor via the NN3D because I have the older version hooked up via NMEA0183?
