Are the worth it? Every time I try to hit a wreck from a chart I can never find it.

Looks like someone in your boat found a good place to drop for grouper.

I don't use the electronic chart, but I have used their paper charts. Some of the wrecks were marked using Loran coordinates and then converted to lat lon. Those take a lot of searching to find. If the wreck or reef was marked using a GPS, they are usually close.

Shallow wrecks can get sanded over by hurricanes. I have a couple of numbers from other fishermen that used to have structure on them, Now they are soft sand.

I assume that the data on the paper chart and electronic chart are the same, so buy the paper chart to see how accurate it is before you spend the money on the electronic charts.

Good point MrPat, however the Hot Spots Fishing chip does not rely solely on charts to provide fishing spots, but more importantly a lot of the marks come from retired captains, guides etc. They are proven spots that Anglers actually catch fish at consistently.

This is one of several reasons why we do not try to compete with products like Navionics, C-map etc. The ocean contours constantly change and surveys have to be redone and updated. These huge companies have the resources to undergo such large scale projects. We like to think of it this way; by combining a cartography chip such as Navionics or Nauticpath and a Hot Spots Fishing Chip, the Angler has the best of both worlds. You can learn about the contours, ledges and such, but also have proven fishing spots in a given area. These two resources combined can provide some insight as to why fish may be holding in a particular area.

After all, if we could think like a Fish, maybe we would understand why and where they would be all the time - LOL

We advise our customers to be aware that nothing in the ocean both inshore and offshore is completely stationary, and sometimes you do have to look a bit for a wreck, hole, ledge etc.

Sometimes; more often than not, we are only as strong or successful as our resources allow us to be. With the technology we have now (GPS's and color fish finders etc) we are way ahead of what we had to work with 10-15 years ago.

I thnk Mr. Pat has the HOTSPOTS ELECTRONIC CHARTS confused with the popular selling TOP SPOT PAPER CHARTS. Different companies.
I received the East Central Florida and West Central charts for Christmas.

I loaded the East Coast chart and actually was foolish enough to venture offshore yesterday (01-06-09)
We got battered around by wind and waves but were able to locate three out of 4 of the newly added
HOTSPOT numbers. All 3 were holding fish. We attempted to drop on one number in 170' but the current and wind made
it imposible to hit the mark.

I took some pictures of the screen on the 3 numbers we found and will post them tomorrow if I have the time. For the cost of the
chip, even if a couple of the numbers produce fish it is well worth it. Many of the numbers are within a mile or two of well known or public
knowledge numbers so it is not like you have to run all over the ocean to find them.

Look for my post of the screen captures in the next day or two.

Here are the fishfinder pics from our trip Tesday out of Port Canaveral. Seas, current and wind made for a miserable day on the water. We dropped on these two numbers using 16oz. of weight and still could not hit the mark! I will be back soon.

The first picture is of several HotSpot numbers shown on the screen. Many are inshore but there are a couple of dozen offshore that I did not have.

Here are a couple shots of the bottom from 2 of the 4 Hot Spot numbers we looked for on this trip

This last picture is of the area that the two Hot Spot numbers are in relative to my drift over the actual spot. The marks were very close to the numbers given and were easily found even in the nasty conditions in which we were fishing.

The name given to each of the numbers on the chip does not indcate what the structure is. These two marks look like some type of wreck or manmade structure since they are sitting on relatively flat bottom.

We were able to mark 3 out of the 4 Hot Spot numbers with ease. We did not spend much time looking for the 4th due to the conditions. All in all I am happy with the numbers and will update here as we fish more Hot Spot numbers in the future.

Wow, I'd love to buy one of these. Too bad there's nothing for the U.S. Virgin Islands.

For the price I'd be interested, how much info is ther available for GA coast? I currently have the Navionic silv and gold as well as the Nautic path card. Does this indicate wreck, ledge, etc?
