check to see if your plotter/ff allows for an aux temp sensor input. if so, like my Standard Horizon does, you can get a temp probe and wire it directly to your FF/plotter. Mine works great!
Thanks guys, I use a Garmin unit right now, the temp reading started going crazy the last time I used it.. The sensor is into the transducer, and I hate to change that out.. I use to have a Dytek unit when I offshore fished on my Commercial boat, that was a super unit. The quick response was uncomapable to the other transducer units on the boat..But Dytek has gone out of business as far as I know..I found a cruzpro unit, that might be what I look into.. Again thanks for your responses... Gene

I have the Standard Horizon cp1000 but I don't use the FF. Do you need the black box to add the temp sensor?

You can't go wrong with Cruzpro. I have their standalone digital fuel quantity gauge (who says that fuel tank accuracy can't be spot on) and engine temp gauge. Would not be without them.
Dytek is out of business, but Seawide makes the replacements for the Dytek temp sensor. They can get the temp probe or sell you a temp gauge that looks like the old Dytek unit, they are in southern california.
Rich - Yes, the temp input is wired into the black box.
OP- I purchased a humminbird temp sensor from Cabela's for under $10. I drilled a small hole in my transom, installed with plenty of 5200 and ran the wire to my FF. I did this because my transducer is a shoot through hull. I am very pleased with the set up as it provides instant and accurate temp readings.
You can get the "high performance" version of the Airmar Smart Sensor temperature sensor. It takes a pretty small hole and will give you the kind of performance you remember from the Dytek. You would take the NMEA 0183 output from the sensor and interface it to the Garmin plotter to display it.
I have one with my NavNet 3D displays and it works very well, showing two decimal places and reacting instantly to temperature changes.
If I follow what you are asking, You can do it with NMEA 2000. LMF 200 (gauge only)
and a Temp sender. This is the setup that I use.
The lmf200 can display more that water temp., depending on additional sensors.
There is also an outside hull temp sensor, if you don't want to drill a hole.
Dytek Temperature gauges are no longer manufactured for parts contact Charles Industries for any remaining availability.
How big of a hole do you have to drill for the thru hull temp sensor?

27mm...
this one is not thru hull, same price and function...
I have 2 through hull speed sensors neither of which is being used. I guess I could fill those holes and redrill but if I could use the existing holes that would be a MUCH easier option.
Here is the sensor and a back up plug encase it fails.
I also have the thru hull transducer that has a built in temp sensor but it has a Furuno plug with 10 pins. My new system is a Raymarine C120 with DSM 300. I have a M260 big ducer that I am going to add. It obviously does not have a temp sensor since it is a shoot through. Can i take the temp wires out of it and some how tap them into the M260 cord?
here is the plug out of the M260 for the raymarine DSM300

Thanks!
Just wondering if you ever found out how to use the existing temp sensor from your thru hull with your new system (C120, DSM300 & M260)?
Reason I ask is that I have a similar set up (C80, DSM300 & M260) and instead of buying a new temp/speed sensor I was hoping I could use the existing temp readings from my thru hull Airmar B744V.
Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated.
