Garmin antenna instillation - too close to VHF antenna???
I'm about to install the antenna for my 4210, but need advice on the placement. The manual says not to install it within 3 feet of the VHF antenna. Ideally, I'd like to flush mount it on the top of my console, but my 8 ft VHF antenna would be 27" away. Is this a major no-no? I feel like I've seen t-tops with the VHF antenna on top and the gps antenna nearby. I haven't paid to close attention, though.
I don't have enough cord to run it through the rigging tube to the stern, then up the gunnel to the bow, where they recommend placing it. Also, I'm afraid that if I have it in the bow, it will rip off in a heavy sea.
If you don't recommend me flushing it to the top of my console, where should I put it?
Thanks in advance for any help.
Sadly, this is the best picture I have. Looking at the picture, the VHF antenna is on the left and I'd place the gps antenna on the right, behind the windshield.

Coil a few the GPS antenna coax (about 5 turns of about 2 inches in diameter, strap it) near the GPS antenna as well as near the GPS itself, it shall bock RF to the GPS.
Some GPS are noisy and generate noise through the VHF, but that is easy to check.

In many so-called eight-foot fiberglass VHF marine band antennas, only the upper three or four feet of the fiberglass tube actually contain the antenna, so you can consider the bottom four or five feet of the fiberglass tube as part of the separation distance.

You're fine as planned, providing you keep a cold metallic cylinder placed precisely in the middle between the base of the VHF and the GPS antenna. My personal recommendation would be a diet Sprite, but you could experiment with other chilled liquids.
