Default Airmar P66 pops up

I've got the above transducer transom mounted. It works fairly well but releases from the bracket at speeds above 32 mph. The older P55 (?) model had a tension screw for adjusting the release but this one does not. Just a plastic clip/hook that surely will eventually break. Anyone with this transducer solve this problem other than by going slower?

I just installed the P66 this past weekend. We'll see if I have the same problem. I am taking the boat out Wed. afternoon. Other than the flip up problem are you satisfied with the performance?

Montauk,
I have the same ducer. Have no problems. Do you by chance have the ducer angled to far forward towards the bow ? If you do, at 30plus mph as the stern gets farther in the water, it will put a tremedous amount of force on the face of that large ducer, causing it to fold.

Regards
Ernie

I have no problem with mine at up to 29 knots.

Yours may be too deep or angled incorrectly.

Transducer was installed by the boat dealer. I was looking at it yesterday while the boat was out of the water. The angle, relative to the hull looked OK but it might be a little too deep. I'll have to study it a bit more.

Thanks for the input.

Montauk Joe,
Just got back in from testing the new P66 ducer. I didn't have any problems with it. It stayed in place all the way to 50 mph.

As a matter of fact I didn't lose contact with the bottom even at 50. I could probably pass over a school of 1000 pound tunas and not see them but it kept giving me an accurate reading of the depth I was in.

Glad to hear that, what boat is it on and what is your deadrise?

Mine must be too deep. I guesing that the dealer did that to accommodate the 24 degree transom, so the inboard side just sticks below the hull while the outboard side hangs quite a bit below.

Thanks

I have it on a SeaPro SV2300 (16 degree deadrise)

If your boat is on a trailer look down the hull to see how much is sticking out.

I think mine is a little too low also but since the performance is good I am going to leave it just where it is.

Montauk Joe,

I installed the same transducer on my boat and it has not poped up so far. Fastest I've gone is 36mph and I could still read the bottom. From what I recall, the instructions says to start with it sticking 1/8" down from bottom of the hull. If it has troublem, move it another 1/8" down.

You should be able to move your without drilling new hole. Just pop up the transducer and remove it from the mounting bracket. You will see that the mounting bracket is held down by 3 screws and the screw slots on the bracket allows you to move it up and down. To give you an idea, here a picture of how mine is mounted.

ivansfo - great photo! I think you're right about how much of the transducer is exposed. Yours seems fairly deep in the water, ever measure how much it sticks dowm below the hull?

Montauk Joe,

My tranducer is sticking out about 1/8" below the bottom of the hull though the picture does make it look a little more than that. So far it has worked pretty well so I haven't fussed with it.

The only problem I'm having is I see some interference on my display when I have my motors running and I'm going over chop. I may put it down another 1/8" to see if that helps.
