Default Garmin compatibility question

Will a Garmin 3210 and 4212 inter-operate OK on the same Garmin network. Based on my research it seems like it would be no problem...

Just making sure.

Thanks

Default Re: Garmin compatibility question

I have a 3010 and a 4208 connected on the Garmin network through a GMS10 'hub'. They will not (nor did I expect them to) exchange cartography, but everything else I want is shared : Radar, XM weather, DSC, AIS, GPS antenna, heading from my KVH 1000, etc. I'm going to try another brand fuel flow sensor because the Garmin doesn't sense flow below 2 gph, and I suspect that N2K data isn't going to pass thru. Since I just pulled the boat it will be a while before I can report.

Have you found any issues other than cartography? Can you share waypoint info? Do you have it configured with an AP?

Thanks

Default It's specified in the install instructions

what's shared .... the only thing is the 3000 & 4000/5000 series won't share cartography (g2 Vision).

Bwp, thanks. My bad, waypoint data is cartography. I was thinking of sharing charts as cartography, but all the chart functions are.

From garmins faq's...:

Question: What kind of data will be shared when I network my GPSMAP 3000 series GPS device to one of the new network units?
Answer: Currently, all of the peripheral network devices will be operated by both machines. This data includes GPS, sonar, radar, weather and NMEA devices. The user data (waypoints, routes, and tracks), charts and navigation information will not be shared between the GPS devices. Last modified on: 06/13/2007

With the two units right next to each other, the need to share waypoints is pretty small. Being able to put up weather , radar, or sonar is more important.

If I move it to the cockpit, I might miss that functionality, but I could always put a 4xxx back there.

Decisions, decisions.......
