You guys that have XM radio via your Garmin display, what do you do / how do you listen to XM when the Garmin display is turned off?
I have the 5215 display, and have the XM weather module and only use weather. I've been thinking of turning on the XM music as well, connecting the XM audio output to my stereo in the cabin. Would be nice when I'm fishing or cruising, BUT, what do you do when your at the dock? Is there a way of connecting the Garmin XM reciever to both the XM weather module, and also directly to an XM ready stereo head unit so you don't have to have the chartplotter display on to listen to XM?
Re: XM Radio and Garmin?? How do you handle control?
no it will not work with the radio that way , you have to control it from the garmin , but you could just get the xm parts for the radio and use it that way
Re: XM Radio and Garmin?? How do you handle control?
Bird .....
Don't think it's possible because of the software used to control the XM functionality. On another note don't know if anyone saw this XM added a host od Sirius channels to their programing yesterday.
Re: XM Radio and Garmin?? How do you handle control?
This is one of the things that I was referring to in your Garmin 4000/5000 improvement suggestion post. Since you do not have XM through the Garmin , you haven't realized how annoying the Garmin/XM control access is. You also have to leave the navigation screen to see what is playing on XM. It does not have a split screen option to allow both.
Unless there is a solution, I am going to just go to the old fashion way of having a XM box so I can control the tunes it from my Clarion head unit.
Re: XM Radio and Garmin?? How do you handle control?
The400/500 series had this feature added in the 4.10 update.Look for it to be incorporated into the 4000/5000 series in the next update due out soon. It's called selectable data window/bars. Watch the video.
Re: XM Radio and Garmin?? How do you handle control?
Very cool Bluewater! Thats some great info!
I have the 4208 and XM weather. I have yet to turn on the audio for a couple reasons. One of which is the fact that you can only use it while the Chartplotter is on. I normally shut it off when I am drifting or on anchor. The other being that I have Sirius for my head unit, so XM wouldbe a little too redundant. It would be a great idea if Garmin came out with a way to use the XM while the chart is off, even if its a little control box that plugs into the NMEA2000 network with small display and some buttons. I do like the data bar option that was shown in your video. That would be nice when the update becomes available.
