Default LMLMF-200 fuel flow sensor (ep-60R) installation location

I just got a LMF-200 and am planning to install for fuel flow monitoring. On the website, it says the sensor must be located "Above the max level of the fuel tank, in-line after the fuel filter and any Y's or T's in the line ".

Questions:
1. I have two fuel filters: the yamaha fuel filter (yamaha f-115) on the engine and a racor water separating filter. I assume that after the filter means on the engine side of the racor?

2. Where my filter is located, I would not be able to mount the paddlewheel sensor above the max level of the fuel tank.

Am I right on the location relative to the fuel filter and is the mounting height likely to cause any problems?

thanks,
Louis

Just connect it anywhere after the Racor. I think you should also try to mount it vertically.

when you say mount the paddlewheel vertically, do you mean w/the flow arrow pointing up or down?
thanks

There are a few more things I find confusing. In the manual, it suggests as "optional" wiring the lmf-200 so that the back lights will turn on when dash lights are turned on. Will the readout be visible w/o the backlight? Only in the daytime? could the backlight be spliced into the main power (for the nmea bus) so that the backlight would turn on each time the unit is powered up?

Also, I installed the gauge, but have not run the main bus and have not connected the fuel flow sensor. I turned on the unit hoping to see something, but got nothing. Does the unit need to be connected to a device to power up, or will it show something w/o a device connected. I don't know if I see nothing because the backlight is not connected, if it is because no device is connected (my next step), or because there is something potentially wrong w/my install or my unit.

thanks,
Louis

As stated in the manual, (section 1, page 1)... The lmf 200 MUST be connected to a nmea 2000 network, or it will NOT FUNCTION. There is no on/off switch. It turns on whenever the 2000 buss is powered, so idealy, you should have a switch for the buss. Once everything is connected and the buss is powered up, it will automatically come on and stay on untill the buss is switched off.

The display IS readable in daylight without any backlight. Like any other lcd display, you might have to adjust the contrast. If you have any other Lowrance instuments or displays, (chartplotter, ff) just turn on the BL sync function. The backlight will be controlled anytime you adjust it on another display. The signal is sent thru the nmea 2000 buss, so all Lowrance units will adjust at the same time. If not, connect the backlight wires, (on the lmf 200) to any other instrument/gauge backlight power, or to your nav/anchor light switch.
