I was just installing my radar dome and running the cable thru the T-top poles when I realize the humongous connector that garmin put on the data cable (which is really a simple RJ-45 with a moisture cover), I cursed them for 15 minutes, left and right, wondering how stupid they were.... so I decided to cut the moisture/dust cover from the 4210 side and run only the RJ-45 which it was still big but it made it thru the poles...
I need to apologize to the fine designer at garmin and their mothers, because after all that trouble and cursing I found the spare RJ-45with dust compression connector that they include on the radar package!!!!
I run the cable already, but now, I will be ableto cut the cablesince I have like 15-20 feet of extra cable on the console....
I felt like an ass... but kudos togarmin for thinking ahead.

Yes. A lot of us who bought those units soon after they came out, called and complained about that problem and they had to mail us a spare RJ-45 with connectors, etc.
Not only do they supply a spare ethernet connector, ("field connection") with their HD radars, but they also include a 2 piece "snap together" threaded cover. I thought that was very slick.
One thing to keep in mind, when it comes to cutting, or shortening their network cable. It's one thing to simply splice the cable, (which I don't like doing) but it's a different story when crimping on an RJ-45, (ethernet) connector. Check out the instructions supplied with the field connection. The wires are not straight forward. They flip-flop 2 wires, (I forget exactly which ones). You have to identify which connector, (cable end) your replacing, by using the comparison chart in the instructions. It's kind of difficult to see the colors through the transparent connector, even with powerfull reading glasses, lol. Also, the crimp job itself has to be done right. Once you get the wire pattern right, you have to make a very clean, stright cut, so that all of the 8 wires go completely into the tracks of the connector. Imo, I wouldn't cut any cable unless it was absolutely necessary.

Hey thanks for the advice!!!! You are 100% right about aligning and cuttingon a clean straight fashion. I've been doing computer network cabling for some time now (well not anymore) and I always thought that was thesecret for a good RJ-45. (also untwist the pairs as less as you can and leave a little bit of jacket inside theRJ-45 itself)
I will look at the directions very closely. thanks again
