Default need better gps system-what kind?

I just purchased a 1992 Hydra-sports WA (25.5 feet) with twin outboards and I need to update the GPS system. Presently have the Furuno 31, vintage about 1999 I believe. Will fish the Gulf out of Pensacola, FL.

Fish finder is Furuno 667-not sure If I can live with that either so I am considering a combination plotter/sounder. Want to have capability for bottom contour maping such as in the Garmin chip. Need to copy and upload hundreds of positions. Don't want to enter them by punching in one number at a time.

Budget $1000 or preferable less. If I live with the sounder what are the choices for the GPS in the 500-600 dollar range? If I replace both do I go $1000 dollar combo or split the money and go with two units? I may not be able to do any better than the present sounder for $500. If I live with the sounder I could stretch the 500-600 price range for the GPS to 700 dollars if that would be a significant improvement for the GPS. Appreciate your thoughts and comments. Thanks

I would reccomend doing two things if fishing offshore
double the allowable budget so that you can get equipment you will be happy with 6 months after the sale
call Jim Maier at BOE www.byownerelectronics.com

All of us here can make a bunch of reccomendations but Jim can package a deal for you and is a standup guy.

a bit outside your budget, but ditto BOE. they have a sale on a 10" combo Garmin unit (3010?) for about $1300. nice big display with solid Garmin plotting and a good sounder too. for the price, very tuff to beat IMO (but not upgradeable to adding radar).
