you need to go to power and ground, and can optionally also hook into a fuel guage/level sensor

So if I understand correctly you have to power up the sensor as well as the NEMA 2000 network?

Looking at the GFS install sheet it looks like the sensor has an extra wire (orange) that you need to use when hooked up to CANet. Well that sucks, I was hoping to get buy without having to drop all the cash for the garmin sensor.

Yes, I think thats where you're screwed, and that extra wire kills the CANet capability.
