Default XM/WX on a laptop?

We have had pretty good luck getting local weather radar offshore on a laptop with air card, but this summer we were over in Andros, far beyond NOAA weather out of Miami and far beyond the air card range. We totally missed out on the approach of TS Bertha (which fortunately turned away from our area). I would like to get XM/WX, but our current chartplotter doesn't support it.

If I get the XM/WX reciever and subscription, can a laptop display the info? Any special hardware or software needed?

Here you go ......

There are a couple of folks on THT that use WX Works that I'm sure will add to the thread.

There is probably a way to feed satellite weather, either XM or Sirius, to a laptop.

You can also get a SSB radio, a TNC (radio modem), and then receive weather fax transmissions. Weather fax works worldwide, but it is not as pretty as the full color real time satellite stuff. It would have let you in on a TS however.
