Using the gain on the Fishfinder

I am looking for some good articles on using the gain on a FF. I have the Garmin 320C and for the most part happy with it. I think I should be seeing more than what I am. the only pet peeve I have with this unit is the water spots on the screen, which is the glare protective cover comes off. Sent it back once already and they fixed it but it is doing it again. Thanks for any help or guidance.

Bump up the grain to 75. I have a 440 and at 50 it reads squat. If you go up over 80 there is to clutter.

Easy way to start is to set the range at a little over twice the current depth and turn the gain up until you see a decent "second" bottom return showing at double the depth. Then reset the range to work with the current depth.
