Default Pulled the proverbial electronics trigger on Ray C120

Yep, I finally made up my mind and I feel good about it. Thanks to all that have posted on this site as well as talking to friends at the Miami show! What made up my mind was a friend called me on my cell this afternoon. He is an area manager for one of the big box marine stores in south FL, and his company was exibiting at the show and he was working the show. They sell all of the main brands, Raymarine, Furuno, Northstar, etc. He just wrote a check for a down payment on a new 31 Sea Vee yesterday, and outfitted it with the electronics today. He went with the Ray C120 and strongly suggested that I do the same. Again, he sells all of the others and could not stop talking about the new "C" series. He was so pumped, he wrote a check for the actual C120 display unit at the show, and after it is sent back for a clean up it will be shipped back to him.

Following is what I went with:
Raymarine C120
Ray 120 WAAS
DSM 250
Pathfinder 4kw dome
Transom 600w ducer wish Regulator would allow a thru hull!
Navionics gold chart
ICOM 402 VHF black
Digital 8' antenna white
ICOM M1V handheld
ACR 406 Cat1 Epirb
Simrad AP11-15 autopilot with RC125 rate compass
Sony CDX am/fm cd receiver
Sony Xplode 1000 amp
Sony 6 1/2" marine speakers "4" units
Sony 8" marine speakers "2" units
Sony marine remote
Sony XM tuner module w/ marine XM antenna
Digital 8' am/fm antenna to match VHF antenna white

I will also use my Garmin 2006C as an extra chartplotter in the t-top electronics box. All electronics will be flush mounted.

I have learned so much from the THT forums and want to thank all of you for not just lurking, but posting useful information.

Mayoki,

That is quite a list!

Do you mind sharing some pricing, amd where you got it. I am looking at the C series stuff as well including the 4K radome, and heading sensor.

So you gonna fish the deep with that rig???

Barry,

Very nice selection. I wish I could fit that C120. I'm going to do some more measuring this weekend and see if I can't possible find a way to squeeze it in and update my 80 to a 120.

Yea Steve, Im am really excited about my selection, and I saw last night that you decided on the "C" series as well. The C120 is 10.4" high by 14" wide and I will have about 1/2" clearance on the top and bottom, and 1" on each side. Should look cool filling up that whole dash! I will put my vhf and stereo in the t-top electronics box on top of each other on the left side, and my Garmin 2006C on the right. That pretty much fills up the space!

BTW your package went out yesterday USPS as the post office was closed on Monday.

Keep me posted,

Congrats on the seavee I put down a deposit on a 26' Friday at the show. Looking at 7 months lead time on the boat but that is when I needed it. Do you know much about seavee in the way of customer support ect. The boat is very light and I am some what concerned about hull strength. Anyway...congrats.. I too am looking for electronics so let us know what you think once you have it out on the water....TBG

Yesterday I spoke with a Raymarine rep at a local show. The C-Series looks very impressive. I think he sold me on the C-80. {due to space/size limits} I would opt for the 2kw dome. I was completely impressed. Due to $ factors, I will probably not get the HDFI echo sounder at this time. I currently have a fine working Lowrance fishfinder. I can easily add the HDFI at a later date. Radar/Chart Plotter is my main interest. I am new to radar, have read quite a bid here and elsewhere. The price of this unit is more than I originally had intended to spend. But for what it does and the quality of screen details and functions it seems to be a great value. I will continue to read posts, but will probably "pull the trigger" next month. Thanks all for your posts.

Mayoki,
Help me out. I just bought a new 25' SeaCraft and have been losing sleep trying to figure out what to put on it. I like what you've done (except I won't need the stereo...my fishing buddies talk the whole trip) and would like to do the same but can't find any of the C series stuff on the Boater's World website...can't find it anywhere for the prices you've listed. If you square me away you've got a free tuna trip out of Oregon Inlet NC anytime we can get together.

Mayoki,
I just did the same thing today to rig my new GB 2640.
Got the C-120 package with a Icom 502a but not at the prices you quoted. I got mine from THT member www.ByOwnerYachts.com I'm happy!

Wetsu,
I just ordered the C-120 at the Miami Boat show. I shopped around on the net, got boat show prices from www.defender.com, www.consumersmarine.com and West Marine matched the price. There are several good people on the THT that have excellent price/service as well. Try www.byownergroup.com or scubasteve. Do a search of recent posts on the C series and you will see my pricing as well as several others. I am surprised that there is nothing on Boaters world website about it, even though the C series is not going to be released until sometime in March, probably the end. BTW, I will trade you a swordfish trip in South Florida for a Tuna trip anytime. I am dying to get a YFT. Let me know if I can answer any other questions.

WETSU,

My prices were from the Miami boat show. I know Defendermarine.com also had good prices, but I'm not sure when they are coming in. I believe Steve at East Coast Trailers got his C80 from Defender. You might check their prices ans then get with some others on THT and see if they can come close. If you would like, I will be happy to call my friend in South FL with Boaters World. He is an area managaer and hooked me up with the prices for the show.

You can email or call me at 850-572-0543.

Dang a YFT would be cool!

WETSU,

I don't know how much room you have on your console but I could not fit the C120. I had to go with the C80.

Here are some Raymarine & other part numbers and prices I paid at Defender:

E02020 C80 $1343.61
E32025 Raystar 120 $240.40
M92650 2kw dome $767.30 (I went with the 4kw)
M92652 4kw dome $1389.71
E62007 DSM $513.72 (I had already purchased one)
906XL3 Navionics Gold CF $170.99

You can get the C120 and transducer part numbers directly from the raymarine web site.

I've already done a schematic of the installation that I can email to you. You will probably need couple of misc. SeaTalk cables and a D244 3/1 Junction box.

I'm not sure if you can still get this pricing but it's worth a try. I would love to take you up on that Tuna trip (that's my favorite fishing).

Doug, Barry, Steve,
Thanks for the help guys. I am now armed with enough information to be a formidable negotiator. Might take you up on your offers to link me up with your sources if I can't get a fair deal up here. I'll be measuring the space in my center console on Friday...the boat is still at the dealer with a delivery date of 20 March. That's when I return from a 3 week trip to Iraq doing my duty for Uncle Sam. You're all welcome to fish on my boat anytime you're in town. There's a group of us with smaller boats who follow the charter boats out to the tuna grounds off the Hattreras point every chance we get. They call us "outboarders". I'm not sure if that's and endearing term or not...guess it depends on the charter captain. Anyway, I'm authorized to use the Cape Hatteras Coast Guard cottages down in Buxton so if you ever want to go contact me about a month out and I'll set something out. Just dropping in would be OK too but you might have to sleep in a 25' center console if you do that.
May and June are usually good tuna months. July and August are better for Marlin and dolphin. Call me after 20 March ...or anytime before next Tuesday and we'll make a plan.
Thanks again.

Tony (WETSU)
