Default McMurdo epirb

I purchased a boat that was in an accident and I tried to register the epirb to a new name and the noaa syst says the epirb was registered as disposed along with the boat. They will not update or register this epirb # on a 2 yr old epirb and I have not been able to contact nobody from McMurdo directly in the UK. It looks like a 2yr old epirb has to be thrown out just because the original owner says he got rid of it though I have a documentation of ownership of this boat. Anyone run into this before?
Thanks

I purchased a McMurdo fastfind plus from a dealer who told me he sold it to a person who registered it, but never took it out of the original package (still sealed in plastic bag). The only thing missing was the box. The buyer returned it and purchased a different model. I tried to register it online and via phone. NOAA would not register it without me having the first owners information. The name my dealer gave me did not match what was registered. My dealer advised I fax the form to NOAA. Last week I faxed the form and have not heard from them as of yet. Dealer gave me super great price and will take it back if I can't register it. You may want to try faxing the info to NOAA

because of the high cost and easy theft an e-pirb cannot be reregistered unless you have all the original owner's info and password's .but here's the deal the Coast Guard is not gonad treat it any other way .if it goes off there gonad respond to it anyway so it's not unuseful.i would rather have one registered to Joe Dirt than not have one at all.

i carry mine with me no matter who's boat i'm in.

When the EPIRB is activated the first thing that happens is that the contacts registered with the EPIRB are called in order to determine if there is an emergency. If the registration information is not accurate it will delay, if not cancel any emergency response.

There's a big difference between carrying an unregistered EPIRB and carrying your own EPIRB on someone elses boat. If you do carry your EPIRB on a boat other than the one it's registered on make sure that you file a float plan with your registered emergency contacts.

Would you rather have an inflatable vest with a hole in it than none at all?

Well thats not quite fair. But suppose they call the registered owner and he insists that unit sank with his boat. The Coast Guard has two emergencies and the other is current and proper. Where are you on the waiting list? Write a short, concise letter to your Congressman explaining the facts, and be kind when the alphabet agencies respond.

well if it's going off 50 miles off shore than they would assume he was full off it.when it is deployed they can pinpoint the exact location and would respond.

again i'm not saying it's the best way to go,but if it's all i had i would surley use it before i threw it away.
