Default Garmin 5212 screen brightness

Really love the 5212 but... the screen is way too bright at night on the lowest setting. Had a 2010C previously and the lower settings were darker. Has anyone tried a film over the screen for a darker shade at night? Or does anyone know where could I get the material to try it?

Have you tried looking at the settings? I have the 4212 and have it set to auto which changes the colors and dims it for night time use, when it is set to day time and you dim it on your own it is still to bright, but when you set it to auto or you go into the menu and select night time the colors are much more easy on the eyes.

I say set it to auto and let the unit will do it all for you as the sun sets.

I tried the Auto but it doesn't dim enough so I used the touch menu to bring it down all the way to the min setting I fish at night a lot & it's too much backlight for me.

It seems like there was another recent thread that mentioned the same thing. The 5XXX series units are too bright at night. Maybe BWP or Glen E are aware of a solution or impending update to take care of this.

Have you set it for night time in the menu manually?

Not the auto mode but manual mode instead.

I agree that the display are way to bright at night. Yes night mode and lowest possible light setting...
I´m hoping for some update. But I will try color film from theater lights for now..

Have you tried contacting Garmin Tech Support?

Even if they don't have a solution right now, they need to know that some folks wish it could be dimmed further.

That's good news on the update, it's a small thing for an otherwise great unit.
I got it specifically so I could see the buttons at night and with them lit on the screen it's nice, just too damn bright.
