There was a thread not too long ago about updates to digital charts. I received an email from Garmin with the latest updates wihich are free

Yes, but you still need to pay to update unlocked regions. And these are the only ones you can use.

There may be a $75.00 USD fee, per region, to unlock this update based on the date your original version of BlueChart was unlocked. Please keep in mind, updates are not required. Garmin recommends that you review the changes that have been made to ensure they are relevant to your needs.
