Default Problems with Airmar B60

Lately I have been having problems with my Airmar B60 which is connected to a C120. It is working perfect than all of a sudden once I get going on plane it starts to get choppy (probably from the disturbence made going 40mph +) and then it will lose the signal completly. The problem is once I slow the boat back down and there is no disturbance the transducer does not come back. The c120 shows no reading and just blinks the dashes. Any idea what this problem is and how to fix it?

How do you get it to work after that happens? Have you check all the wire connetions to make sure they are not loose? Especially the connections from your B60 to your digital black(DSM###) box to your C120.

Do you leave your boat in the water?? If so maybe you have some growth on the window of the B60

Darth, I get it back by scrolling through the menu and choosing a different transducer in the settings. I dont want to have to do that. I dont think its a problem with weed growth. Its either connection or setup.

Where is the transducer located on your boat? Are there any strakes or hull fittings forward of the transducer? It may be getting aerated water passing under when on the plane.

Have you checked for any possible software updates for the C120?? If it worked before obviously your installation is OK.

Maintaining bottom lock at 40 MPH in rough water can be tough, if the B60 or any transducer comes out of the water or gets lots of turbulence, it will lose bottom lock. So transducer placement is key to keeping bottom lock. Proper gain and transducer frequency for water depth help also.

The fact that the FF does not regain bottom lock after coming back down to an idle or slow speed is something else. Again transducers with the proper tilt to match the hull angle help, and show things actually under the boat.

Go to the Airmar site and read about proper transducer placement and operation. Call you boat manufacturer and ask them where the best place is for transducer placement on that particular hull.

Call your FF manufacturer and ask about the proper settings for your particular setup.

I can understand losing the bottom in rough water and turbulence but what Im more concerned with is it not regaining bottom lock when the boat is slowed down or stopped.

Exactly my concern. I would call Raymarine Technical support and see if this is a problem with your digital sounder module, make sure you have the latest software updates for the C120 and Digital Sounder Module.

mine comes back when i stop, so i figured it was prob. from the turbulence. but usually it doesnt do it for me. It doesnt happen every trip but when its a little rough it usually stop working, maye talk to airmar about and see what they have to say
