Default Garmin 5212 Screen?

Anybody had any problems with their touchscreen yet? Scratching or anything?

Thanks

Have had mine installed since June 2007 - not a nick - it is beautiful!

Still a little unsteady when trying to hone in on details while underway - just bought the remote which hooks up in seconds via bluetooth - this also can be used to keep wear on the screen down a bit. I swear by this unit! It is really amazing when you install with all the bells and whistles - have the GMR18 Radar, XM Weather/Radio, and the backup camera, which is a life saver! The G2 maps are a huge help when pulling into a new marina for the first time - the only way to use "route to" feature is to dial down the boat settings for height and draft to zero.

I installed a heading sensor as well - seems to work well so far, but I have to take the boat out for a good calibration. Wish I had money left for gas after the electronics blowout!

Happy to answer any questions you might have.

I have only had mine a week. But, I have a lot of confidence in it. Hopefully, it will hold up.

We've only had ours for a couple of weeks and love it. The only problem we have is when the autopilot (TR-1) is engaged the display reverses itself.

Can you elaborate more on what the display is doing. I have a 5012 and TR-1 that I will install when my new boat arrives.

Cheers,

Patriyacht so you don't get disappointed maybe later or something, the garmin remote does not use bluetooth. I don't think the plotters even have bluetooth in them.

Why do you have to dial down the "route to" settings to 0? My 4208's seem to work fine with a 6' depth setting and 25' overheaed setting.

The plotters do indeed have bluetooth embedded in them. Just for kicks I tried to bond my Motorola phone with my 4208 (it didn't work).

The remote does use bluetooth. The manual doesn't say bluetooth specifically, but the terminology, procedures, and wireless range (32 feet) listed show that it is. The product is called the RF Remote; RF for "Radio Frequency". Bluetooth uses a short-distance band of radio frequency.

i'm very happy with my 5208.
i've had it since november as an upgrade from and old lowrance 750 monochrome unit.
the display is extremely bright and sharp and the split screen options make it super easy to troll over a reef area .
i love the touchscreen because it is so intuitive that i didn't need to read very much in the manual.
the screen wipes clean without any special care so it looks llike it was very well built.
good luck
