Default Garmin 4208

Have a new Garmin 4208 Plotter and I was wondering if I will need to download the last up-date that was in February 08? Would appreciate any comments.

If it's new, it more than likely had a chip in the box that would allow you to update it. I just installed a 4212 bundle a week ago that had a couple of chips that came with the individually boxed components. They came in a white thin cardboard envelope that looked like the size you would ship a CD or DVD in.

I'm hoping that in the box the 4208 came in, that there was a cardboard envelope in the box that had an SD chip in it. The envelope is approximately 6" square. Inside there is a chip that has a Garmin label on it and is identified as part #: 010-00427-01; SW Update. The one I have has a date of 10/14/07. The unit was a bundle pack so, there were several of these chips in the boxes. It was received a little over two weeks ago and has already been installed. Did you see anything in the box that fits this description?

The card that came in the box with my 5012 was not the latest update. I had to download it from the Garmin website. Once you have downloaded it, open it and it will guide you to upload it to a bland SD card.

To my understanding is that the 4208 already has loaded software in it. If you want to get the G2Vision for your specific are that's an extra cost.
