I have a tilted element mounted in front of the steps on my hull, and at WOT no loss in bottom readings. So far the deepest depth has been in 150', but it was reading fine.
I am using a GSD 22 also.
I now have a wrench for the nut on these, pretty simple looking thing, and it works great.

I had my B60 20 tilted element installed by the dealer where I bought the boat only to find out that they had put it in facing the wrong direction, I now had side scan sonar. The dealer had to pull the boat and reinstall the transducer with the arrow on top facing the keel, the unit works very well now and I also do not lose bottom at 30 MPH, make sure you install the unit correctly.
