Put the boat in the water today and turned on the 582L, powered up fine and all seems to work OK except you can barely see the display. Its almost like the "backlighting" has stopped working. Have adjusted the brillance all the way up to its highest setting and that did not help. Only way to see the display is you have to be about 6" away and even than its very hard to see. Ran the systems check and everything checked OK, reset to factory settings and that also did not fix it. Has anyone else had this problem and if so, how did you fix it?
I had the same problem with mine a while back. After being on for a while (15 mins or so) and it wamred up it was closer to normal. I called furuno and ended up shipping it back to them for repairs. They repaired the scree (something about a bad electronics board - dont remember which one) and they also upgraded the saoftware for me. They turned it around in a day!! Furuno's dont break often, but when you need service they are awesome!!
That's interesting. Mine is dark when I first turn it on but it brightens up within 2 or 3 mintues. Its done it since day one so it never bothered me. Once it does brighten up its as good as I could want, its just that first couple of minutes.

Mine has always come on as bright as it gets within a few seconds, never has needed time to warm up. I thought that it may need some "warm up" time since it was cold, but I ran it for over an hour and a half, never came bright.
I'd give those boys down in Nags Head at Marine Electronics of the Outer Banks a call tomorrow (441-1360) and see what they have to say about it. I think they are a factory Furuno repair facility anyway. If you do talk to them I'd appreciate hearing what they have to say about it.

Send it directly to furuno, there great to deal with. They will ship it back to you the same way you ship it out. I sent mine two day air on a monday, they fixed it wednesday, I had it back friday. Why they have it they will check to see if you have the latest software installed.
Thanks for your help and the suggestion to call Marine Electronics, they are a factory Furuno dealer. I tried them mid-day today, no one at the store. Figured I'd call them Monday morning. Hate to be without a fishfinder, the Rockfish season is really good right now, plus its rather difficult to navigate Oregon Inlet the way it is without a depth sounder. Also, will keep you updated on what we find and how its fixed.
