Suzuki DF225 2008 interfaced to Raymarine C120 Hello everybody,
I have read the threads on this and other boards and been spending the last week harassing numerous companies with my questions....including a few that advertise on this site. I have picked up little bits from all your informative posts but to be honest....I'm a real dumb arse when it comes to the whole NMEA 2000 thing and not much of the post is related directly to what I need to know. My main problems are I seem to get a lot of conflicting information the more I dig into the subject and there is next to nobody here in Australia that can get the required parts or can even answer my questions. Before I toss a coin of which plan to take I thought I might post up some of the information I gathered here in the hope that some of you in the know can help me sort it and tell me exactly what I would best be buying for my needs.
The question I sent so many companies (eg. Raymarine, Suzuki, J and H Products, Lake and Sea, Browns Point Marine, LEI Extras, BOE Marine, Furuno, JTH Electronics, TMQ Electronics, Maretron....you get the point) was something like this-
To whom it may concern,
I require a system to interface my boats electronics and motor together. I know almost nothing about the whole subject so I am hoping you can provide me with the information and parts I require to get this up and running. I have spent numerous hours researching the issue with many local and overseas forums and suppliers to either have the buck passed back and forth or get conflicting information. Time is not my friend as I currently am having the boat built at Cairns and the builder requires the parts to be fitted during the build process.
I am running a Suzuki DF225, Raymarine C120 with Raystar 125, Furuno FCV585, Icom M422 and a Polyplaner MRD-60.
I wish to interfacing my 2008 Suzuki DF225 with my Raymarine C120 for engine monitoring info to be displayed.
I also wanted to interface my Icom M422 VHF radio with my C120 for position send / report function.
I am going to be running a B164/20/10F transducer for my Furuno FCV 585. Is there any way to send the sounder signal to the C120 also?
Is there any other considerations I should make or information I require??
I need to know what are all the parts I require, a cost and when you would be able to mail them to Cairns?
Thanking you in advance,
Jay
A couple of answers I did get were like this-
I can set you up with a Suzuki 4" SMIS/Lowrance gauge and all the hardware to interface to the C120. Note that with the 2008 engine you will be eliminating the analog warning functions in you analog tach (or you can just eliminate the analog tach completely as the SMIS gauge will have all the functions.
or
You cannot interface a Suzuki engine to a Raymarine unless you also have a Lowrance unit on the network – The Raymarine does not have the ability to program the Suzuki interface. Also, there is no direct cable to connect the networks together. I have no experience with the ICOM or Furuno units.
or
You need these cwr part numbers:
31001, 31783, Lowrance EP-20, 31789
or
You will need the following. A 2' nmea 2000 cable, the Raymarine nmea 2000 cable. You will cut them in half and then splice them to make an adapter cable. That will hook the C120 up to a T which will hook to you Nmea2000 network. You will need a Lowrance LMF400 or Suzuki LMF400 and a Lowrance EP-20 sensor for the Suzuki. The Lowrance LMF400 will include all the network components to build a NMEA2000 network.
Everything you need to interface the C120 to your Icom is included with those units. The B164 will not work on the C120, only the 585. Good luck.
or
You might be able to use the A06027 - Devicenet cable however only if the Suzuki has a NMEA 2000 network
or
The Suzuki system will interface with the raymarine product. Suzuki does not supply the adapter to make the connection but I believe if you contact raymarine THey can most likely help you.
or
You engine must be able to output NMEA 2000. Please check with Suzuki whether or not your engines do and if so they will be able to supply you with the kit you need to connect to our display. (Raymarine)

(This one is from a very helpful local fisherman)
As you are setting up a new network, I'd go with the RED NMEA2000 connectors where you can. This means all the backbone T-connectors and terminating resistors will be RED if possible. On the rear of the C120 and FCV585, you will need to look and see what the NMEA connectors are, because this will indicate what interface cables you need. If they are standard RED, then no problems. The Suzuki DF 225 will need the SMIS cable from Suzuki. If it is a 2008 model, you'll also need motor-to-SMIS cable interface as well. See an earlier post. The SMIS cable will connect to a NMEA 2000 T connector, NOT to your C120 or FCV585 . Make sure you order the RED connector version and one RED T-connector. These cables (SMIS-to-NMEA2000 and SMIS-to-2008 motor-interface) are from Suzuki. The C120 will need a matching NMEA2000 cable to its rear connector, with the other end of the cable a RED connector to the NMEA network. Assuming the rear of the C120 is RED though, then you buy a RED cable and a T-connector from anywhere. Otherwise, buy from Raymarine. Same for the FCV585. Otherwise, buy from Furuno.
NMEA2000 Network. Buy:
1. two RED connector 120 ohm terminating resistors. One for each end.
2. whatever network cables lengths you need to match your diagram from the above layout diagram at the start.
3. a separate NMEA power supply cable and one RED T-connector.
4. a power switch and fuse for the NMEA power supply cable
5. any RED T-connectors still needed
NOTE: Standard RED NMEA2000 cables/connectors can be bought from anywhere selling NMEA2000.
There are still a few more replies but I don't want to loose anyone in the length of my question.
I thank anyone who spent any time replying to any email they sent me....as I'm still awaiting a few replies....but my main problem is without understanding the system....I don't know which is the best way to progress. This is what I'm hoping I can finally clear up here and the sooner the better as I require the parts soon hopefully.
Thank you,
Jay
PS- I believe that I have finally found somebody who has stock of the Airmar B164-20-10F for the Furuno FCV585 but if I can not get a confirmation off them my mon/tue next week then I will be once again looking for one. Any ideas where to start as this is one item I need with urgency as my boat builder is planning on installing the floor by 12th February latest so I'd hope to get it to Australia before that time.
PSS- I am going to buy a Navionics Platinum 62P card for my C120. Lots of companies including Raymarine Australia and the Navionics site say that they are not compatible but I believe they are....right????
Thank you again.
