Default Navman Transducer Bracket?

Do any of you guys who have the Navman fuel computer have any pics of the mounting bracket for the transducer? Any ideas on how to mount the transducer would be greatly appreciated...

Thanks

Ther is no bracket...you make what ever you want to hold the transducer. The transducer itself is pretty small and looks like a disk with hose barbs coming off both ends. Anything that will hold a hose (like an adel clamp...the steel thingies with rubber inserts) will work.

At the first glance It looks like piece of cake kinda job. I am still to get it right. Here what I learned:

1) DO NOT CLAMP HOSE WITH METAL CLAMPS. It allows some air into hose and will let little prop to spin faster. Therefore It will show you higher fuel consumption that it actually is
2) MOUNT THEM VERTICALLY
It will allow air bubbles to leave ducer area
3) MUST BE MOUNTED ABOVE FUEL FILTER LEVEL
... who knows why ... ?

After I met all those reqs,
I got my readings down from 6.2 gph to 4.2 gph per engine on idle. Still a lot
I wonder if your units work fine?
I have NAVMAN 5600 with twin engine fuel system

Is your unit set on US Gallons or on Liters? Mine mysteriously changed from Gallons to Liters (surely not my fault and I had the hardest time trying to figure out why it was reading 5-6 at idle.

So you guys just let the transducer hang there?
It seems as though this transducer should be mounted in a way that it would not be bouncing around in the engine compartment. I guess I will have to start machining a bracket out of stainless and see what I come up with.

Smeely Fish,

I have a hose clamp screwed into the block my fuel filter is mounted on. The transducer sits in the hose clamp. The clamp is not tight because the transducer is tapered. It has not bouced out of the clamp, either in the water or when trailering the boat.

I mounted mine by just taking a couple of tie straps - the type with screw mounting holes. Strapped one on each side of the transducer (around the fuel line) and mounted vertically with stainless screws. Simple and worked like a champ!

Default Navman Transducer Bracket?

You guys are lucky you chose NAVMAN. I purchased a STd HZn FF41 (same as earlier Navmans) this past spring when they offered a 75.00 rebate.

I'm been having inaccurate flow readings since new.
When the flow rate should show 15 GPH, it scrolls between 13.5 GPH and 17 GPH. How stable are your flow rates? I've tried various types of transducer mountings to minimize vibration.

It is installed on a 225 MERC EFI. Std Hzn blames it on the engine and it's fuel delivery system .

Any thoughts ??

Default Navman Transducer Bracket?

For BW 23

I also installed an FF41 last Spring. Worked pretty well until, after I thought I had recalibrated actual useage after the second refueling, it started to respond VERY slowly to changes in fuel rate. Would eventually settle at the correct GPH, but took a LONG time.

Tech suppost was very helpful, but was NOT aware that the newest units have a setting for the time averaging for the fuel flow reading. It defaults to ten seconds, but can be adjusted from 1 to 100 seconds. I had inadvertently adjusted mine to 86 seconds, hence the SLOW response.

You might want to see if your FF41 has this adjustment, and change the averaging to 15 or 20 seconds, to see if it smooths out the GPH readings for you a bit. You can check/adjust the averaging as follows:
1) Hold down the Flow key while turning the power on, which enters the Fuel Calibration menu.
2) Press and hold the Flow and Total keys together for two (2) seconds to enter Flow Filter mode.
3) Fuel flow average period menu AVG is displayed briefly and the default value of 10 seconds is displayed if you have not previously changed it.
4) Use the "up" or "down" arrow keys to select a new value between 1 and 99 seconds.
5) Press and hold both Flow and Total keys simultaneously for one (1) second to save the new averaging period and return to normal operation.

I now have a FLOSCAN 9000 installed, and it works great - including MPG readout.

Anyone want a slightly-used FF41 (that has been readjusted back to ten seconds averaging)? Meter plus transducer for a great price. Email me.

Brian
