The new change stems from the processor change only. These are still the same radar but with a better picture. The Open Array will get an upgrade around Feb 08 but doesn't need to the upgrade as bad as the domes did.

Al radars at some point convert analog to digital. Garmin and a few other brands convert A/D on the radar instead of the display. Garmin's new radars have a new processor, that is the other difference.

I take it these will also work no problem with the 3210 Garmins?

Good question, I would think so since the image is processed in the radar and then transfered down via ethernet. I would expect to see a software update down the road.

Can you find birds with it or do you still need an open array?

Find birds, NO. The beam width is too large on both radars. The new processor will only clean up the radar picture, I'm sure it will be better, just not knock your socks off better.
