Default Trailer light Plug Wiring

I needed to replace the male and female ends of my trailer light harness. By the way, the trailer has no bakes. The male end has three male posts and one female. The same is true on the other end. Here is the problem. The replacement units I bought have the correct number of posts and alignment but only have 4 wires whereas the ones I am replacing look identical except they have five wires. I have connected the white, green, brown and yellow but I still have one extra wire (I think it is green or brown with a tracer). Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

The fifth wire is connected, at the vehicle end, to the backup lights. It is used to acculate the solinoid which would block the flow of brake fluid which is necessary to allow disk brakes equiped trailers to back up. If you don't have brakes it goes nowhere.

Thanks for the help. Hey Thom - while you are out there, another question--an easy one. I have a Raytheon GPS/Chart plotter and a separate Furuno 6100 fishfinder. Why on earth would anyone want to output the NMEA signal from the GPS/Chartplotter to the fishfinder?

jlr i can answer that one, you would want to hook up your FF to your Chartplotter so that when u mark a certain spot it also marks depth of that spot. I know that my Garmin 182C hooked up to my Furuno 600L will do that, not sure about your raytheon though.
